  • Choosing your foundation shade

0 level shades – appear almost white on the skin, and are suitable for people who seem to burn when they merely think about the sun. People this light are relatively rare, and have difficulty finding foundations light enough for their skin.

1 level shades – are extremely fair, but with a bit of colour. Level 1’s actually have to go into the sun to burn – for about 3 minutes. People with this colouring wear the lightest shade of foundation available from conventional brands.
2 level shades – are basically lightest. If you wear the lightest (or next-to-lightest) shade in a conventional line, then level 2 may be perfect for you.

3 level shades – would be considered ‘light to medium’ skin tones. You can take a little sun, carefully (though it’s better not to).

4 level shades – are right there in the middle. You might not burn very easily, but it’s still possible.
5 level shades – have caramel skin tones with any undertone.

6 level shades – are right on the border of medium and deep. Even if you have a cooler skin tone, you probably tan easily.

7 level shades – work well for those with bronze skin tones.

8 level shades – are for those with dark brown skin tones.

9 level shades – work for those with the deepest skin tones.

Your undertone is the underlying colour of your skin. It can seem a little confusing but you probably already know your undertone. It's easy. There are three basic undertones: cool, neutral, and warm. Think of the colours that you love and feel terrific wearing.
Cool toned people look best in white, rich jewel tones and blue-based colours (purple, cool red, blue, fuscha, pink), and silver toned jewellery. Warm skin tones are flattered by ecru, earth tones (brick red, orange, olive, and warm yellow-based brown), and gold tones jewellery.

Still confused? No worries - that's a clue, too. If you are neither clearly cool nor warm then you probably have a Neutral skin tone. Neutrals generally look great in a variety of colours (though probably no extremes) and both silver and gold toned jewellery. Okay, now we have that sorted - let's figure out which foundation shade will work best for you.

If you are COOL toned then you are likely to wear a colour from our 'COOL' line. Take a look at the 'NEUTRAL' shades if you're not absolutely classically cool - our NEUTRAL line is a little less pinkish and might also work well for you.

If you are NEUTRAL toned then you may do well with our NEUTRAL line. It's great for those who can wear some earth tones, some jewel tones, gold and silver, ecru and white. If you think you have a neutral skin tone but favour silver, white and jewel tones this is probably perfect for you. If you are neutral toned and can wear cool colours but tend to favour warmer earth tones, gold, and ecru then you would probably do well with our BEIGE line. This is our most popular line from Finland to Japan. It's a classic 'warm neutral' tone that works well for lots of people.

If you are WARM toned you look decidedly best in warm earth tones and yellow-based colours. Rose pink, icy blue, and mint green don't work for you.

Finally, our OLIVE shades were also created for neutral skin tones. These shades are neither yellow nor pink but instead a variety of gradations of 'cafe au lait'. If you are super confused about your skin tone and see neither yellow nor pink undertones, look great in a variety of earth tones and jewel tones, and can wear both gold and silver you might do well in an Olive shade. (Please note: our Olive shades tend to run a little deeper than our other foundation lines.)
  • Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).
    Nothing more.

Alima Pure mineral makeup contains nothing but the finest minerals, specially processed to be light, silky and designed to stay on your skin. Some minerals provide the colour, others provide the opacity and - in shimmery products - the sparkle. Some minerals naturally protect skin from the sun and environment and happily, these minerals are common to almost every product Alima Pure make.

Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499): inorganic compounds created from purified, oxidised iron. Iron oxides range in shade from yellow to red, brown and black. Approved for use in cosmetics in the U.S., E.U. and Japan.

Mica (CI 77019): an inorganic, colourless silicate mineral that provides lustre and adhesion. Alima use mica in most of their cosmetics for its luxurious silkiness and subtly reflective properties. It's available in many grades, some known as “sericite” or matte, that range in textures from matte to shimmery. Approved for use in cosmetics in the U.S., E.U. and Japan.

Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891): a naturally occurring oxide of titanium, generally used as a pigment. Cosmetics grades are extremely pure and highly prized as an effective nonchemical sunscreen. Titanium dioxide is found in Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Foundation and most of their colour cosmetics. It is not used in their Color Balancing Powder, Balancing Primer Powder or Satin Finishing Powder. They do not use nano-sized titanium dioxide in their formulas. Approved for use in cosmetics in the U.S., E.U. and Japan.

Zinc Oxide (CI 77947): an inorganic chemical compound found in nature as zincite. Refined zinc oxide is used in cosmetics as a white pigment, and is highly prized as a nonchemical sunscreen. It is also regarded as anti-microbial and wound-healing. Zinc oxide is found in Alima's Satin Matte Foundation and Balancing Primer Powder. They do not use nano-sized zinc oxide in their formulations. Approved for use in cosmetics in the U.S., E.U. and Japan.
  • Award winning Satin Matte Foundation is made from 4 pure hypoallergenic ingredients – it goes on easily and feels like nothing at all, naturally. It evens out your skin tone, enhances your complexion and reduces the appearance of fine lines and pores. And, with 61 shades, there's a match for everyone.

    · Bismuth oxychloride (BOC) free
    · NO: parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, phthalates, dimethicone, petroleum, talc, bismuth oxychloride, or nanoparticles.
    · BDIH "Certified Natural Cosmetics”.
    · Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free - never tested on animals

Silky, weightless, and easy to apply Satin Matte Foundation evens out skin tone, enhances your complexion, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and pores. This award-winning formula is also free of irritants, dyes, fillers, glutens, and toxins.

Minerals form a protective barrier on the surface of the skin rather than cross the dermal barrier as some liquid cosmetics do. Mineral makeup works well for both oily and dry skin. Apply with Alima's Foundation Brush. Two of the primary ingredients in Alima Pure's Satin Matte Foundation are natural physical sun blocks, providing enough coverage for incidental sun exposure.

Full & Natural-Looking Coverage

I wear Neutral #2 and it gives me complete coverage and a lovely non-cakey finish. It minimises minor blemishes & discolourations quite well and I use the Alima concealer powder on larger blemishes. This is the best mineral powder I've used and my daughter also now wears it in one shade lighter.

Beautiful! A+

It feels weightless and smooth on the skin. It covers really well, I was worried as I like full coverage to mask acne and wears beautifully throughout the day. I'm impressed that I can get such a good results with natural make-up then some high-end expensive chemical makeups.

Foundation review

I love that this foundation is pale enough for me without having to mix it (hallelujah!) and it hasn't broken me out whatsoever in the few weeks of using it. In fact, my skin seems to be calmer and less inflamed since I started using it - probably because I'm not putting loads of nasty chemicals on it anymore. I love it so much I've ordered more of their products to try.

Great mineral foundation

This mineral foundation is excellent. The colour range is great and the coverage is very buildable. The only issue I have is that I feel it makes my skin feel dry even though I have oily skin (maybe I need a primer or something) but it looks lovely and very natural.

Really lovely

I have been finding it really hard to source mineral makeup that provides good coverage! Although I still wear a liquid foundation under this powder, it provides a nice medium to heavy coverage and a smooth finish. The colour range is awesome as well. Very happy and would buy again.
