Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Won’t oils clog my skin?

Mineral oil clogs the skin and causes breakouts.  Squalane Facial Oil mimics the oil your skin already produces/produced (it diminishes after the age of 23), so your skin is receptive to it.  Squalane oil does not clog pores and absorbs into the skin at 2mm per second.

The Daily Moisturizing Oils can be used on your face and body without a problem as well since the jojoba (the primary ingredient) is a dry oil that absorbs quickly into the skin, does not clog the pores or leave skin greasy and heavy.

I have oily skin; won’t oil make my skin worse and cause breakouts?

No, not if you use the right type of oil.  Mineral oils clog your skin, causing breakouts.  Some oils have large molecules that sit on the surface of your skin and don’t absorb into it – leaving you greasy and shiny.

The Squalane Facial Oil is perfect for all skin types – even sensitive and oily.  It absorbs right into your skin without leaving you greasy and without clogging your pores.  Over a few days of use, squalane sends a message to your sebaceous glands telling them not to produce so much oil, helping to normalize oil production.

I have Acne Prone Skin, which products are best for me?

We recommend starting a daily skincare regimen that includes the Brightening Cleanser and the Squalane Facial Oil.  For spot treatments, use the Blemish Stick Daily and The Blemish Lotion on a cleansed face before bed.  We highly recommend the Clearing Mask which can be used 1x weekly and up to 3x weekly for severe breakouts.

The city air is wreaking havoc on my skin, what can I do?

This question is relevant for anyone experiencing breakouts. First, it is important to use a good cleanser, an important step in achieving clear skin.  We recommend using the Brightening Cleanser as it cleans your skin and provide exfoliating properties (from the fruit acids in the strawberry essential oils) that will help remove the pore clogging dirt floating in the air.

To address breakouts once they’ve formed, or as you feel them coming on, use the Blemish Lotion (spot treat before bed) and the Blemish Stick (throughout the day) to help minimize redness and irritation and to shrink or possibly even eliminate them.

Once a week, we recommend using the Clearing Mask to help remove toxins, dirt and blackheads from your skin.

I have Rosacea, what can I use?

The Rosehip Cleanser and Squalane Facial Oil can be used on all skin types including sensitive and rosacea without causing flair ups and redness. Over time, the rosacea will calm down and skin should appear radiant.

I have a problem with Milia (the white bumps around the eyes) what should I do?

Milia is keratin protein filled cysts under the skin that accumulate and can’t find a way to escape.  They are not acne and should not be treated as such.

How To Avoid It:  To keep them from forming and to help eliminate the ones you already have, it is important to exfoliate your skin 2 -4x weekly and to use natural, chemical and fragrance free products.  We recommend using the Brightening Cleanser – which cleans and gently exfoliates (the strawberry has exfoliating properties) – followed by the Squalane Facial Oil (which will not clog pores).

How To Remove Milia:  Do not try to remove it yourself.  The steps above may be all you need to soften the cysts to provide an escape route.  If not, go to a trained esthetician or dermatologist for treatment.

The pump on my bottle doesn’t work?

All of our bottles have safety mechanisms on them to prevent leakage. To open the bottle, follow the following steps:  Hold the silver ring with one hand with the etched line on the plastic top of the pump facing you. With your other hand on the plastic pump-top turn it towards your right to release the locking mechanism (turn only the plastic pump, not the aluminum ring below it). To relock, turn the plastic top towards the left.

Does Your Cleanser remove makeup?

Yes,  both the Brightening Cleanser and Rosehip Cleanser not only clean your face without tightening and leaving a residue, they removes surface makeup from your skin and are gentle enough to remove your eye make-up and clean your makeup brushes.

Can I put on makeup after using the Calendula Eye Balm?

Absolutely, we recommend using it 2x a day on a cleansed face 5 minutes before makeup application. You only need a little so it should not leave the delicate area around your eyes greasy and it absorbs into your skin within a few minutes.  After use, go ahead and apply your makeup.

What’s the difference between the Blemish Lotion and the Blemish Stick?

The Blemish Lotion is a bit stronger and is recommended for nighttime use (it goes on pink).  The Blemish Stick is for daytime use  (any time you feel a blemish coming on or want to treat one).  It goes on clear so no one can tell you are using it and can be used on top of or below make-up.

How do I use the Blemish Lotion?

Resist the urge to shake the bottle.  Cleanse your face before application. The pink sediment should be allowed to settle to the bottom of the bottle.  Dip a clean cotton swab through the clear liquid into the sediment and then dab onto your blemish/s. Do not double dip the cotton swab.  Best when used in the evening before sleep.

Is it safe to put the wand back into the Blemish Stick after use?

You can re-use  your the blemish wand (do not share) over and over without fear of bacteria growth because the menthol essential oil and witch hazel in it are anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

Which moisturizing oil is best for my skin?

The answer to this comes down to personal preference. The scent you like best (Vanilla Citrus, Lavender Chamomile or Patchouli Sandalwood) should determine which you choose.  Other than the essential oils of the scents, each contains the same base oils, Jojoba and Apricot Kernel Seed Oil.   Having said that, Lavender offers calming aromatherapeutic properties and the lavender and chamomile combination are perfect for sensitive, irritated skin, making the lavender chamomile oil is ideal for sunburns and after shaving or waxing.

Can I use the Squalane Facial Oil under make-up?

Absolutely.  They will leave your skin dewy and provide you with a natural glow.  Since they are not greasy, go ahead and put your makeup on right on top of them.  Customers have said  “by using them first, makeup actually goes on better and looks better.”

Since the Squalane Facial Oil helps to even out skin tone and fade sun spots, you should also notice yourself using less foundation.

Do your products have sunscreen?

Our products do not contain sunscreen.  The reason being, we only use all natural ingredients.  The only sunscreen ingredients we would be comfortable using (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) leaves a white film on your skin.  Other available sun-protecting ingredients contain chemicals in them.   Having said that, the Squalane Facial Oil does contain some UV protection and our products with avocado seed oil (The Balm and Eye Balm) have a natural SPF of about 8.  Our recommendation for sun protection is a gorgeous hat, fabulous sunglasses and a shady spot when possible.

How long do your products last?

If our products are unopened and kept out of sunlight and extreme weather condition (especially heat), they should last between 18 months – 2 years.  Once opened, discard after 6 months.

Are your products safe?

Extremely, Indie and her staff use all the Indie Lee products (only some use the Facial Serum since it is for mature skin and some of our staff is still in their 20s) on themselves and their children.  If Indie didn’t feel comfortable using her products on her own kids, she wouldn’t put her name on it or offer it for sale.  All the ingredients used are from fruits, vegetables, plants, and other edible or completely harmless sources.  Before our products are created, research is done to ensure the ingredients used have been deemed safe.  Once our products are created, they are tested and reviewed in a lab to insure safety.   We advise you to check labels to insure that personal allergens are not present.  A patch test is advisable when trying any new skincare.

Do you have chemicals in your products?

The reality everything can be considered a chemical…even water. We do not use any un-natural or toxic chemicals in our products, only natural (and naturally derived) ingredients. There aren’t any genetically modified ingredients either. When we source our ingredients, Indie looks for pesticide-free, GMO-free, organic ingredients. And, she works with chemists and pharmacists to find natural solutions for skin care.

Where are your products manufactured?

Our products are manufactured in Florida. The facility is approved by Dept. of Health of Florida and has regular inspections. It is also FDA registered and cGMP compliant. We made the choice to use a FDA registered and cGMP compliant lab because it is important to everyone here at Indie Lee & Co. and the public at large.

Are your products more protective or corrective?

We have some products for protective issues like our body balm, and others for corrective issues like our blemish stick. We have products that vary from healing to hydrating. Overall, we believe our products to be preventative. By switching over to a healthy lifestyle of using all- natural products we are protecting ourselves from toxins, chemicals and harmful substances that can cause much more serious issues.

Why aren’t you certified organic?

The FDA does not define or regulate the term “organic,” as it applies to cosmetics, body care, or personal care products. The department allows for you to claim your product as “organic” if you have 95% of ingredients that are organically approved. But, you can have the most toxic ingredients in a 1% level. Since the term certified organic meant you could still have chemicals we opted against applying for it.

What is your stance on animal testing?

We believe in the production of safe products produced in a safe manner, under safe conditions.  Indie Lee & Co is proud to be certified under the Leaping Bunny Program. This program ensures that all of our products are guaranteed to be 100 percent free of new animal testing. We also pledge to clear animal testing from all stages of product development.
