People used to be artisans, producing everything in their homes and trading and bartering with others. People grew their own food, worked their land, and were connected to the earth in a real way every day.
The Industrial Revolution changed that. Suddenly everything could be made cheaply, far away, and in mass quantities. At first those industries provided careers to help create the consumers for all these goods. But as economies became more and more efficient, those workers were slowly and steadily phased out. The jobs that remained were mostly at the very bottom tier requiring minimal skills and providing equally little pay and, even worse, no fulfilment.
Seeking better opportunities, a growing number of these workers have moved into the new economy—a sales, service, and manufacturing industry made possible through the web and its ability to keep us all connected. We are the new artisans—designers, thinkers, and other culture creators. Manufacturing and retail will never go away. But now a premium is placed on specialty products and curated collections. A renewed appreciation for quality acknowledges that the best rarely comes out of a factory.
This is what drives us. The excitement and the opportunity to create something truly special. Every day.
I opened my first salon in Portland, Oregon, when I was 10 years old. I found an antique barber’s chair in the basement and soon was styling and fixing the hair of all the kids in the neighborhood. Even at that age I couldn’t understand why everyone had a hard time with their hair. It came naturally to me; I instinctively knew how to cut and style their hair to give them the look they wanted.
My interest in skin care came a few years later and by
the time I was a teenager I was comparing results and
reading labels. I began using different products and researching the ingredients and the effects on my skin. I began to make the connection between diet, physical appearance and overall health.
By my 20’s I had moved to Los Angeles and was working in high end hair salons. As my career flourished, I began looking for products containing specific, natural ingredients and I couldn’t find them anywhere on the market. Driven by desire for what I wanted and a fascination with natural ingredients, I expanded my background in hair and scalp to the biochemistry of the skin. I began creating my own skin care and the results were astounding.
That’s how my Cacao Antioxidant Mask came into being. My clients began noticing the changes in my skin and asked me what I was using, so I shared it with them. I had no intention of selling it, until friends who suffered from acne experienced dramatic improvements in their complexion from the Cacao Antioxidant Mask. It felt incredible to help people feel better about themselves.
Everything just snowballed from there – I felt a sort of calling. My friends and clients at the time had no real understanding about what worked to heal, repair and protect their skin, scalp and hair. They were filled with a lot of misinformation and marketing hype and I knew I could help them. I became imbued with a great passion to educate and help people feel better, more beautiful and confident. This continues to inspire me every day to create the most effective, pure products of value that deliver real results.
With that, Josh Rosebrook Skin and Hair Care was born, and it’s only gathered momentum from there. Today I work with a team that includes industry-leading phytochemists and herbalists. Together we conceive, test and perfect my formulas, and only when it meets our uncompromising standards do I share these creations with the world.
The unmatched level of purity in each and every ingredient we use is a big part of what make our products so unique and effective. All plant ingredients in our skin and hair care products are 100% organic, certified organic or wild-crafted. Our commitment to the absolute highest quality ingredients allows each product formulation to work on an advanced level, where the plant's active constituents are not inhibited by synthetics or toxins, which allows them to work as a whole in synergy and deliver unparalleled transformation.
Plants and herbs are the real, original source of active, vital nutrients for the body. The potent extracts, oils and essences of pure, whole plants offers the highest level of healing and regeneration available to the skin, scalp and hair.
These vital nutrients include anti inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, fatty acid, amino acid, vitamin, mineral and a vast phytochemical activity. Plant nutrients share a similar natural, molecular structure to the nutrients and oils of the body. This likeness creates like a "bio-match" and has a very real vibrational alignment that can absolutely bring about profound changes to the skin, scalp, hair and body.
In other words, these powerful plant ingredients facilitate and support the bodies own miraculous healing abilities, allowing the body to take full advantage of these generous nutrients when needed. This whole, fascinating process helps advance healing and regeneration of the skin, scalp and body to the optimum level. It’s truly an art and science.
My team and I have selected herbs and oils in each product that contain a potent, synergistic combination of active plant nutrients designed to quickly improve and transform the appearance and health of the skin and hair. The base of my skin care is anti inflammatories and antioxidants. The skin needs to be naturally calmed and soothed with anti inflammatories so that its own natural, balanced healing process can ensue and visible changes can occur. Antioxidants neutralise molecules that damage the fibroblast cells. These fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin protein - the cells that make up the foundation and structure of the skin. These are crucial proteins that make the skin full and firm.
The skin, like the body, has the extraordinary ability to heal itself. Our job is to facilitate that regenerative process and administer the right natural elements to increase, support and accelerate that incredible transformation for your ultimate luminosity, vitality and health.
Always remember the body is natural, and the original source of nutrients and oils necessary for body, skin, hair and scalp regeneration are found in nature: plants, herbs, nuts, fruits, seeds, stems, leaves and flowers. These contain the phytonutrients that share distinct molecular and structural similarities, and have the same natural regenerative abilities as the oils and nutrients in the body. This likeness of biochemistry, or bio-match, has a natural vibrational alignment and activates the regenerative cellular process in the body that safely and effectively slows the visible signs of ageing.
Inflammation is the body’s natural response to incoming bacteria, pathogens or microbes. In order for the skin to begin it's own natural healing process, it must be calmed with soothing anti-inflammatories. Then the skin can begin rejuvenating, building back cellular structure while restoring its natural balance and defence processes. Antioxidants are also needed to stop cellular destruction while igniting the production of collagen and elastin — the very essence of skin structure that makes it appear plump, full and healthy.
To CLEANSE the skin properly is the first step to removing unwanted bacteria, dirt, pollution and imbalanced or excessive oil that can cause inflammation and disruptions to the skin, such as blemishes and problem skin.
A gentle, ph balanced Cleanser that delivers transformative nutrients into the cells is essential to both reinforce moisture protection and preserve the skin’s natural defence system, the acid mantle barrier. Daily practice facilitates balance and a healthy cellular response resulting in a clearer, brighter complexion.
EXFOLIATE to remove unwanted dead, dull skin cells and reveal fresh, bright new skin. Exfoliation is vital to having clear skin and also triggers the skin to produce collagen and elastin, crucial proteins that create and form the shape and foundation of the skin. Without weekly exfoliation, serums, hydrators and creams can not fully penetrate the skin and bacteria can become trapped underneath the dead cells.
Like cleansing and exfoliating, we must DETOXIFY the skin to release unwanted bacteria, microbes, dirt and imbalanced oil that inhibit your body’s own powerful natural, healing process. Think of it as a deep cleaning; if you are not detoxing the skin regularly, the deeper dirt, imbalanced oil, bacteria and microbes will prevent other skin care products from doing their job while contributing to blocked pores which cause disruptions.
HYDRATE. Remember, the foundation of skin and its cells is water. When dry, patchy or flaky, the skin's moisture level is compromised and prone to a myriad of problems, including the accelerated appearance of facial lines. Proper skin hydration reboots circulation in the skin to restore balance and deliver nutrients to cells, literally plumping them with water.
For optimum cellular hydration, the vitamin-infused water in the Hydrating Accelerator "relaxes" cell surface tension to open up the skin and trap water while a natural moisturiser will lock it in.
NOURISH by delivering plant nutrients necessary to support cellular regeneration and vitality.
PROTECT the skin through a combination of moisturising and SPF. Natural non-nano mineral sunscreens not only protect skin cells from being broken down by solar rays, but also work as an occlusive agent to help moisturise and trap hydration in the skin. Moisturisers with SPF (and big hats!) are imperative to skin preservation.
Cleansing. Exfoliating. Detoxifying. Hydrating. Moisturising. Protecting. All of these steps are deeply interrelated and necessary for healthy skin and optimum results of each skin care product.
Beautiful, shiny hair starts in the follicle and scalp.
Hair is fed from inside the body. Blood vessels inside the dermal papilla nourish the cells that divide and grow the hair shaft. As they develop, they continuously push the previously formed cells upwards and ultimately out of the scalp as beautiful, shiny hair.
Remember, eating nutrient-rich foods, and minimising and managing stress encourages strong, shiny hair. The hair is formed through the nutrient uptake it receives from the blood. Raising the heart rate with cardiovascular exercise stimulates circulation which also encourages healthy hair growth.
We can also offer excellent topical solutions to encourage strong, healthy hair.
Hair is simple in structure, made mostly of a very strong protein called Keratin, a little bit of oil and moisture. When the hair grows out of the follicle it hardens and dies becoming the hair you see, lubricated and protected by the bodies natural oils. Oils work to soften and add sheen to the hair and moisturise and protect the scalp against the environment.
The right shampoos and conditioners effectively cleanse the hair and scalp while retaining the scalp's natural oil balance. Rich plant oils help protect, soften and add shine and reflection. Shampoos with specific herbal infusions stimulate the scalp and follicle encouraging strong, continued hair growth.
Our herbal infused vitamin water, organic aloe vera, herbal extracts, black soap and plant oils work in combination to cleanse, soften and add shine while stimulating blood circulation to the follicle for strong, healthy hair.
Testing on animals is wrong, inhumane and must stop. We do not and never will condone animal testing.
Including but not limited to: sulfates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, artificial colours, silicones, petrochemicals or GMOs.
Our products that contain both water and/or organic aloe vera juice and oils together, require a preservative. We have found an extremely low amount of naturally occurring, food grade Potassium Sorbate along with our own in-house, proprietary vitamin-structured water and plant sourced antioxidants to be the most effective, non-toxic, broad spectrum option available to ensure a safe, quality product.
